This song was inspired by the new healing technologies becoming available to us. During a particular healing session, I saw myself re-connecting with my divine original blueprint, and asking that this energetic template be installed and re-inform my physical body, so that I may return to that divine perfection that I was designed to be in alignment with when I came into embodiment. After writing her first book, “Your Life Your Destiny” Wendi had visions of putting some of her most important work onto audio disc.  She first brought this up in April, when we were helping out at the Wellness Retreat she hosted, in Hutchinson Island, Florida.  Soon after she came up to Sebastian and we talked about recording her project. That moment was when she told us, “I’m doing it! I am going to get it done by July 17^th.”

Sarah and I were very excited to be part of this project and to assist her in her vision. I especially enjoy working with speakers like Wendi. I like co-creating the dance so to speak. That is where I take Wendi’s spoken words and weave the right music in the right place to create this beautiful dance of music and words. I like to think that we are creating art for the ears and mind.

So getting back to the box, starting last week Wendi has been coming up to Sebastian and putting in her time. What is the box you ask? Well the box is an old cedar wood sauna that we converted into a soundproof recording booth by using a layer of foam padding and a layer of sound deadening blanket. My husband helped me drill a hole at the bottom to feed cables through, and the floor is some old scrap from my husband’s padded flooring in his martial arts dojo.

Don’t laugh… it works very well. The clean sound is well worth being sent to the box. And it does have a nice little window in the door so you do not feel like you are in a coffin. So lesson for the day, never throw out an old sauna if you plan on building you own recording studio.

And Wendi has been a real trooper, she has been recording up to twenty-minute at a time and she has stuck it out! Boy what drive and ambition she has. I have no doubt that what ever she puts her mind to she will be successful. And from what I have been listening to, she defiantly has it going on.

That is one of the perks of my job. I get to enjoy all the positive teachings and lessons that we record for all these woundful teachers. And I honestly think it is changing the way I see things for the better.

This past Saturday, June 19^th, Manuka Honey kicked off the event to a packed house there at the Blake Library in Stuart.  For the duration of the event, from 1 – 4 pm, somewhere around 300 people came to show their love and support for this man.  Following Manuka Honey’s performance were the belly dancer’s, and yes they were a BIG hit.  Margarida’s sister, Yvonne, who teaches belly dancing at One Yoga Planet, brought a troop of dancers that wowed the crowd with their performance.  She followed up their performance with a beautiful solo dance.  Brother Judah’s young students sang a sweet heartfelt song for him while he looked on from the side of the stage.  And to cap off the day all of his drumming students and fellow drummers created a fantastic drum circle.  The resonant sound of all the drums exploded within the auditorium.

Although we hadn’t previously met Brother Judah until the day of the fund-raiser, we felt honored to spend the day with him and all the people that love him and support him through his healing process.  Throughout the day we learned that this drummer taught racial tolerance and family values through his drumming outreach classes to the local school children, and the Boys and Girls Clubs.  You could tell by watching him that his nature was to give, and here he was learning to receive.  Not only were Brother Judah’s young students there in full force, so were his adult students and peers, and everyone had a blast!  Once again, I have to say how honored we felt to be a part of such a wonderful community event and to send healing, energy, and love to a fellow musician in need.  We hope to meet again!

I witnessed this in rehearsal the other night when my girlfriend, Angela, whom I recently invited to play percussion with the band, joined us on the tambourine for a song. I personally feel that tambourine is an instrument to learn and master in it’s own right, just like any other, and I have found it difficult at times to hold down a rhythm.

I watched Angela playing around trying to get a feel for it, and after the song was done I showed her what little technique I know for playing. So we tried the song again from the beginning. That’s when she really started getting into the song and dancing a little bit. Jokingly she started hitting her booty on the tambourine, holding her arm still as her hips swayed to meet it, but she was keeping the rhythm! She said her booty knows the beat, not her “white” hands. We all laughed that maybe this would be her style of playing!

It just goes to show, rhythm is something that come from within and has to be felt. The movement has to come from that place, not someone’s prescribed way or technique. It can’t simply be thought through. When Angela went inside and felt the song and started moving, she instantly connected with her rhythm. As many tambourines and percussionists there are in the world, there are probably just as many unique rhythms and styles. I realized it’s not something you can be shown, you just have to feel the inner rhythm and the technique will come with time and practice.

As a musician, this holds true for me. When I’m presented with a new song; a new rhythm, I first have to close my eyes and go within, to feel it. Upon connecting inwardly I can then come out and play with it. I also find that after years of playing with the same people, it’s easier to come into alignment with each other and find our collective rhythm quickly. The key is to be able to hold a dual focus. To listen to what’s going on around you and hold that inner rhythm at the same time. Over thinking it can get you stalled, taking no action. Fear of failure or making mistakes can take you out of the moment and stop you in your tracks. However, when you take action, regardless of the outcome, you learn and move forward. By listening to the rhythms inside and all around you, trusting your gut and intuition, you will naturally be able to find your place; find your rhythm. Take chances, act, live and enjoy it!

Wendi and Eric Blum were the host and hostess of the retreat. To start, they picked the beautiful Marriott Resort on Hutchinson Island, which had great rooms and facilities.  The conference room for the retreat featured a panoramic view of the Indian River Lagoon with sailboats lazily sailing by and dolphin’s fins occasionally breaking the water, so it was easy to forget the outside world.  The hot tub seemed to be the big meeting place after a full day of activities where everyone would relax and unwind.

The caliber of speakers and instructors they were able to collect for this wellness retreat were really top notch.  Dr. Joel Kline, a M.D. with a focus on holistic medicine, came from Colorado Springs, Colorado and lectured on optimizing health with nutrition and solving the supplement mystery.  Kumari, Animal Mystic and Reiki Master, who is from Sebastian Florida, guided the group through a meditation and we had the pleasure of backing her up with live music.  She also taught us about the energy healing tools we all possess.  Kumara who is also from Sebastian Florida, taught ancient yogic breathing techniques that I personally found very helpful and healing.  And then there was Sunne Young, who’s high energy kept the group engaged while she taught us about our chakras and their functions and how to development our psychic abilities.

To everyone’s delight, Christina Dills introduced the healing technique called Jyorei that originates from Japan, and she offered treatments to anybody willing.  Margarida, a Kundalini and Ashtanga yoga teacher from Fort Pierce, Florida guided us through our yoga poses and completed the evening by singing a beautiful kirtan popularized by Yogi Bhajan.  Also teaching yoga and doing the beautiful henna tattoos by the pool was Loren Russo and her husband from Miami Beach, Florida.  And let’s not forget about Wendi and Eric, who put together an experience for all of us to share and in doing so I walked away with more clarity, focus and a lighter spirit about the world around me.

Even though we were running from sun up to sun down, we were sorry it had to end.  The group of people that showed up for the retreat were open, kind and full of energy.  Sarah and I were hoping to get to know them a little better. Regardless of how brief the encounter, we still walked away knowing we were mingling with some great spirits.
