A most welÂcome addiÂtion to our instruÂmenÂtaÂtion has appeared. Recently Ken and I were talkÂing about the space within our music for a guiÂtarist, which we had interÂviewed for withÂout sucÂcess. He had been trackÂing the Onori picÂcolo bass on E-bay and decided to go for it. Using the Logic Pro clean elecÂtric guiÂtar effects trio, we immeÂdiÂately heard the sound we were lookÂing for.
Ken’s clean rhythÂmic gypsy jazz playÂing perÂfectly comÂpliÂmented the new song Beloved. With Ken’s bass playÂing transÂlated to the higher octaves, and my often used left handed bass piano chords and modÂuÂlaÂtions, the song took on a whole new sound; a lightÂness and sweetÂness to our ears! The benÂeÂfit of branchÂing out and tryÂing difÂferÂent roles with curÂrent musiÂcians within the band, is that we know exactly the sound we’re lookÂing for.
In searchÂing for the right musiÂcian before we found it was often a tough call. Either the musician’s playÂing was perÂfect, but the lifestyle didn’t fit with ours, or that conÂnecÂtion wasn’t quite there, and the sound didn’t mesh. I am so happy for this gift of the picÂcolo bass, that Ken gave himÂself and the band. I do so look forÂward to explorÂing the new dimenÂsions in sound this bass will take us!
